About the Project
The “MY HEART WITH YOUR INCLUSIVE HEART” project was an Erasmus+ adult education initiative designed to strengthen inclusive attitudes, improve professional competencies, and promote understanding of diversity through international learning and cooperation.
Implemented by Associação Young Professional Development Society Portugal (YPDSP), in cooperation with Pixie Academy in Türkiye, the project provided an opportunity for 20 participants to engage in an international learning experience in Dalaman from 8 to 15 May 2025.
The project recognized that inclusion requires more than formal policies. It depends on empathy, mutual respect, accessible learning opportunities, and the ability of educators and adult-learning professionals to understand and respond to different individual needs.
Through structured learning activities, participant interaction, reflection, and evaluation, the project aimed to encourage more inclusive approaches to adult education and to strengthen the capacity of individuals and organizations to contribute to welcoming, respectful, and supportive learning environments.
Why Was the Project Developed?
Adults have different educational backgrounds, abilities, experiences, social circumstances, and learning needs. However, barriers such as social exclusion, limited opportunities, stereotypes, and insufficient understanding of diversity can prevent people from participating fully in education and community life.
YPDSP recognized the importance of developing practical competences and positive attitudes that support inclusion in adult learning. International cooperation also offers valuable opportunities to exchange experiences, learn from different cultural perspectives, and explore approaches that can be adapted to local organizational contexts.
The project was therefore developed to:
- Promote empathy, respect, and understanding of individual differences.
- Strengthen inclusive approaches in adult education and non-formal learning.
- Encourage the exchange of experiences and good practices between Portugal and Türkiye.
- Support participants in reflecting on their professional practices and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Strengthen cooperation between organizations working to promote learning, participation, and social inclusion.
The project was aligned with Erasmus+ priorities concerning inclusion and diversity, adult learning, international cooperation, and the development of competences for personal, professional, and social development.
Project Goal
The overall goal was to strengthen inclusive attitudes, knowledge, and practical competences among participants, supporting more accessible, respectful, and responsive adult-learning environments.
By bringing people together in an international learning setting, the project sought to encourage reflection on how inclusion can be translated into everyday professional practice and organizational activities.
Main Objectives
The project pursued the following objectives:
- Promote inclusive attitudes: Encourage empathy, mutual respect, and greater awareness of the diverse needs and experiences of adult learners.
- Develop professional competences: Support participants in reflecting on approaches that can improve inclusion in education and learning activities.
- Encourage intercultural learning: Create opportunities to exchange perspectives and experiences across different cultural and organizational contexts.
- Strengthen cooperation: Develop the relationship between YPDSP and Pixie Academy through shared learning and project implementation.
- Support the transfer of learning: Encourage participants to apply relevant insights in their organizations, professional activities, and communities.
- Promote dissemination: Share the project’s purpose, learning, and relevant outcomes with colleagues, organizational members, stakeholders, and the wider public.
Main Activities and Learning Process
The mobility took place in Dalaman, Türkiye, from 8 to 15 May 2025. The project combined international cooperation with structured learning and participant reflection.
The main areas of work included
Preparation and coordination: Participants and project teams prepared for the mobility, coordinated practical arrangements, and established the basis for participation in the learning activities.
Inclusive learning and reflection: Participants explored the importance of empathy, respect, diversity, and inclusion in adult education. The learning process encouraged reflection on personal attitudes and professional practices.
Intercultural exchange: The international setting created opportunities to exchange experiences, discuss different perspectives, and develop mutual understanding.
Evaluation and feedback: Pre- and post-activity evaluation processes supported reflection on the learning experience and helped identify participants’ perceptions of the activity.
Follow-up and dissemination: The project created a basis for sharing relevant learning with colleagues, organizational members, and other stakeholders and for considering how inclusive practices could be incorporated into future activities.
These activities supported a learning process in which participants could connect discussion and reflection with the practical challenges faced in educational and community settings.
Achievements and Expected Impact
The project provided an international learning opportunity and strengthened cooperation between YPDSP and Pixie Academy. It also created space for participants to reflect on inclusion, diversity, and the role of empathy in adult learning.
Its main contributions included
- Increased opportunities for intercultural exchange and professional reflection.
- Greater attention to inclusive attitudes and the diverse needs of adult learners.
- Opportunities to review existing practices and identify areas for improvement.
- Strengthened organizational experience in planning and implementing international adult-learning mobility.
- A foundation for continued cooperation, follow-up activities, and the dissemination of learning.
The project’s longer-term value depends on how participants and organizations use and share the knowledge gained. YPDSP therefore considers follow-up, practical application, and dissemination important parts of the learning process.
These contributions should be understood in the context of the project’s activities. Specific claims about measurable changes in participants’ competencies or long-term impact should be supported by evaluation results and other available evidence.
Key Lessons Learned
The project reinforced several important lessons for inclusive adult education and international cooperation.
Inclusion begins with understanding. Recognizing individual needs and listening to different experiences are essential steps towards creating supportive learning environments.
Learning is strengthened by exchange. International cooperation allows participants to compare experiences, question assumptions, and consider approaches that may be useful in their own contexts.
Reflection supports professional development. Participants benefit from opportunities to consider what they have learned and how it may influence their future practice.
Cooperation requires shared responsibility. Successful international activities depend on clear communication, coordinated preparation, effective implementation, and constructive collaboration between partners.
Dissemination extends the value of learning. Sharing lessons beyond the immediate group helps organizations, colleagues, and other stakeholders consider how project learning may inform their own activities.
For YPDSP, these lessons underline the importance of connecting international mobility with organizational development, practical follow-up, and continued commitment to inclusion.
Dissemination and Public Awareness
YPDSP is publishing this article on its organizational website to make the project’s purpose, activities, and learning accessible to the wider public.
Dissemination helps ensure that the value of an Erasmus+ project extends beyond the participants directly involved. It provides an opportunity to inform adult educators, civil society organizations, community groups, volunteers, professionals, and other stakeholders about the importance of inclusive learning and international cooperation.
YPDSP encourages organizations and individuals to reflect on how empathy, accessibility, respect, and diversity can be integrated into their educational and community activities.
The project also demonstrates the value of European cooperation in creating opportunities for learning, sharing experiences, and developing approaches that support more inclusive societies.

Looking Ahead
The completion of a mobility activity is not the end of the learning process. The next step is to carry relevant lessons into everyday practice, share experiences with others and continue identifying ways to make learning more inclusive and accessible.
YPDSP remains committed to promoting lifelong learning, social inclusion, intercultural understanding and cooperation through its educational and youth-development activities.
Through projects such as “MY HEART WITH YOUR INCLUSIVE HEART,” YPDSP seeks to contribute to a Europe in which diversity is respected, learning opportunities are more inclusive, and people and organisations work together to build stronger and more supportive communities.
Together, we can turn empathy into action and make inclusion a shared responsibility.
